Acupuncture For Headaches

October 30, 2008 by admin

Many people are now aware about the effects of acupuncture for headaches. This is not a new treatment for headaches, in fact, it has been around since the 1970’s and studies have shown good results with this technique.

According to a case study that was published in 2003, acupuncture helped reduce both the severity and frequency of cluster headaches which resulted in the decreased intake of medication or complete discontinuation of headache medications. In addition, it can also provide a lasting relief for cluster headaches and stimulates the production of cortisol that aids in preventing the occurrence of intense headaches.

Acupuncture treatment is about using needles placed on acupuncture points which are located all over the human body. This has been known to be effective with the treatment of headaches and the insertion of the needles used in acupuncture should not be a cause for concern on the patients’ part. The needles are so small that pain is negligible. In fact, after placing the needles on the acupuncture points, people tend to relax and gradually go to sleep during the treatment.

The acupuncture treatment for headaches may differ in frequency as well as the duration. Standard treatment may last for thirty minutes and should be done once or twice a week. The headache may be relieved after a single treatment but may also require several sessions for chronic headaches. Regardless, acupuncture for headaches work for most people.

Another benefit of acupuncture for headaches is that the treatment comes with no side effects. On the other hand, OTC or prescription drugs are often linked with negative side effects.
