Massages For Headaches

October 15, 2008 by admin

Massages for headaches aren’t what you think - they actually don’t have to be done on the head and are based on the hand’s acupressure points. A particular acupressure point known as Hegu when stimulated can give tremendous relief from headaches. This point can be found between the index finger and the thumb. The Hegu is placed and clamped on this point to sooth the pain the goes with headaches. There are a number of people who claim that this method is effective for headaches of all types but particularly tension headaches.

Another similar device, known as Hoku L14 works the same way as Hegu but this time, it is placed around the palm and is hooked on the thumb in order to provide constant pressure to the hand’s acupressure point.

Acupressure is an alternative as well as safe treatment for headaches according to the National Headache Foundation as well as the National Migraine Foundation. Acupressure makes use of devices to perform massages for headaches. This treatment is meant for people who are uneasy with going to the hospital to seek doctor’s help or with taking medications to cure headaches.

One of the effective massages for headaches is known as trigger point therapy. The muscles involved in this massage treatment are those of the neck, shoulders and the upper back to maximize headache relief. A regular session of trigger point therapy often results in decreased frequency as well as severity of headaches.

There are various other hand-held massage tools but the ones mentioned above are pretty popular, natural and effective. Since these are natural, there are no known side-effects.
